I am glad that the author made the ending happy for Melinda; however I thought it did not fit with the rest of the book. Throughout the book, Melinda is always depressed; because the ending was so happy it did not fit with the rest of the book.
Although the ending was much happier than the entire book, I didn't really like the ending. She ended up with a few friends, but less than she started with. I think that the ending was just kind of random and didn't really sum up the book. It was almost like the entire book was depressing and then at the very end, everything suddenly came together. Normally, I would like this sort of ending, but it just didn't suit well with me
I didn't like the ending. It was a bit predictable; just another one of those happy endings where the main character's problems are finally justified. I'm not saying the ending shouldn't have tied up the book, but for me it was just a little bit too anticipated. In general, it was very different from the somber tone of the book, but still easy to foretell.
The entire book was very depressing, and then suddenly everything was O.K. and happy again. I think the author should have kind of eased the happiness in instead of just going straight from depressing to happy. It was also sort of a quick ending. She did not finish everything off well. It just ended. I probably would have liked it better if the ending was a little bit longer to sum up the entire book.
Although the end of the book was much happier than the beginning, I do not feel like it really fit into the rest of the novel. Melinda deserved to fit in and have friends. The happy ending was so drastically different from the rest of the book that it did not really feel right or even seem realistic.
I'm happy and mad about the theme. I realize that Melinda finally spoke up because she was... fed up, but what will she do now? I think she has set up a pretty bad situation for her future failing all of her classes and all. Maybe that's just me too logical. I don't really believe that everyone accepts her now just because they have pity on her. But the rest of the book is really good, so I'll forgive the author for writing an unsatisfying ending.
