Do you think there was a time in the first grading period when Melinda could have spoken up?

Answer the Question :)

  1. I think that Melinda could have really opened up to Heather throughout the first marking period. Heather is a very peppy and involved student and I think that she would be a good outlet to let out Melinda's confessions, or at least near the beginning of the story when they first met.

  2. Melinda definitely could have spoken up at many times throughout the first marking period. However, I do not think that she necessarily should have spoken up. Although she should tell her parents about what happened to her, it is not necessary to tell Heather or any of her other classmates or teachers because they could possibly form opinions about her that would last forever. Instead, she should tell her parents and try to get some kind of counseling instead of getting a bad reputation for herself, which would lower her self confidence even more.

  3. Okay so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to comment twice, but I have something say. I also agree with Claire in the speaking up would probably be a little but too dramatic in the first marking period. I think it was wise of her to lay low for a while until things sort of calm down. I also agree with Claire that she should find someone to get a bit of advice from in order to learn how to handle everything.

  4. I think Melinda should have told someone she didn't know since she didn't seem to be comfortable talking to her parents. She should have spoken up even if she gained a bad opinion, because obviously the experience would continue to scar her until she let it out. If she happened to gain a bad opinion, she could always transfer schools, which I think would be best for her anyway. By that time her parents would realize all she went through so they would let her transfer. And if she told them that would explain all of her moodiness, so they would understand that too.

  5. I think that there were many points in the book where she could have spoken up, but that wouldn't have the same effect. She didn't speak up until the end, and that is what makes the book so unique. She is quiet and somewhat rude to people the entire book, but in the end when she does speak up, people are still there for her.
