Book in General

So far, do you like the book? Why or why not? Are there specific events that you have a problem with?

  1. The book is Ok, but I'm not sure that I really like it yet. She is so depressing because of everything that happened to her. The writing just overall is depressing.

  2. I actually really like this book. Although the mood is very depressing and saddening, I'm very interested in this book. I like that it's like a real life experience that someone could have gone through and I tend to enjoy the more non-fiction stories.

  3. This book is interesting; it is not the best book I have read but I can get through it. I agree with Delaney because the book is quite depressing; however, I like fiction stories about teens.

  4. I really really love this book. I love all the description. It's so creative it confuses me sometimes, but I think that makes it more interesting. I've never really read anything as depressing as this, but I think it's pretty interesting because it describes exactly what goes through the mind of a girl with issues.

  5. During the first marking periods I didn't really like it. I thought it was just another "teen depression" book, which I have read many of. Later, when I finished the book, I warmed up to it. I realized I could relate to her more and the writing was quite interesting.

  7. I have changed my mind. I still agree with the first comment I made, however, I really started liking the book about halfway through. I think it just took me a little bit to get into it. I agree with Anna about how we can really relate to Melinda and her life. She wants to speak up, but she can't find her voice.

  8. Even though I have only read the first two marking periods of Speak, I am really enjoying the book. I love the way that Melinda narrates because it feels like you have a personal relationship with her. I feel bad for her and want others to know what has happened to her, but at the same time I see the consequences of speaking up.
